Other Recent Activities
Activities 2002 and prior: 1985. Wrote letters with constructive recommendations to the California Regional Water Control Board regarding the amount of effluent being discharged into Deer Creek by the Nevada City wastewater treatment plant. 1986. Suggested the Board of Supervisors (BOS) address the fundamental requirements of a rapidly growing county: upgrade road maintenance; resolve the Glenbrook traffic problem; consider a county-wide fire department; and, expedite plans for regional waste treatment plants. In addition, the Federation recommended that the Board of Supervisors require more critical environmental review and evaluation of proposed development; and, become more involved in the growing problem of toxic wastes and their threat to our environment. 1986. FoNA mixed it up with the Nevada County Contractors Association, and the BOS, protesting ill-advised increases in industrial and commercial zoning before developing those zones which were presently in existence.. 1986. Answered Judge Frank Francis invitation for participation by community organizations to participate in the process of formation of the Grand Jury. FoNA nominated then treasurer David Denny who was later selected and sworn into the Nevada County Grand Jury. 1988. Supported the Nevada County Recreation Task Force. 1988. The Federation appealed to the BOS on the Fowler Center EIR Proposed Wetland Amendment. 1988. The Federation appealed to the BOS on The Mineral Management Plan proposed by Chair Todd Juvinal and Supervisor Crawford Bost. 1988. The Federation battled with the Planning Commission over the Proposed amendment to the Open Space ordinance as it related to wetlands. FoNA pushed for a County Health Officer back when Bill Shultz was Chair of the BOS. In 1994. FoNA received an Award of Appreciation for Outstanding Achievement from the Sierra Nevada Group of the Sierra Club. 1n 1994. FoNA received a Certification of Appreciation from the Rural Quality Coalition for work & Commitment to the Nevada County General Plan. FoNA was very active in the 1995 General Plan. |
